Golfing the Adirondacks
There are many golf courses within fifteen minutes of Ampersand Bay Resort and there are choices for all skill levels. Whether you are an avid golfer who gets out a couple of times a week, or the kind of person who has time to hit the course a few times a year, one of our area courses will fit your needs perfectly. Here’s a summary of the area courses that we recommend:
The Lake Placid Club
Offers 45 holes of spectacular golf in the heart of the Adirondacks. Our award-winning courses offer a unique variety of golf for players of all abilities in a truly breathtaking setting.
The Lake Placid Club Links Course was designed in 1909 by the renowned Scottish architect Seymour Dunn. Dunn remained true to his origins, and the Links course represents Scottish Links style golf at its best with bunker- laiden fairways, native fescue, and large undulating greens.
The Lake Placid Club Mountain Course was laid out in 1910 by Alexander H. Findlay who immigrated to the U.S. from Scotland in the early 1880’s and became one of the pioneers of golf in America. In 1931 the course was remodeled by Alister MacKenzie, designer of AUGUSTA NATIONAL – home of “The Masters”. With smaller greens and more tree-lined fairways, this course begs for the straight shot. The engaging design takes full advantage of the scenic vistas and will appeal to players of all levels. It is quite simply the essence of “mountain golf”.
Our Pristine Nine measuring 1,519 yards winds up the trio of courses, offering a little slice of golf heaven with seven par 3’s and two par 4’s. It is as wonderful for the beginner as for the accomplished player who wishes to hone his short iron game.

The course is located in the heart of New York’s Adirondack Mountains on Upper Saranac Lake. Designed in classic Scottish fashion using the natural terrain to provide a wonderful golf experience with spectacular mountain views, pure mountain air and memorable fragrance emanating from balsams that line the course. From the bent grass tees and tight lush fairways to the deep bunkered undulating greens, the Saranac Inn has a reputation as one of the most carefully maintained and challenging resort courses in the northeast.

Saranac Lake Golf Club-
Nestled halfway between Saranac Lake and Lake Placid in Ray Brook, the Saranac Lake Golf Club is a challenging, fair and fun test for any level golfer. The 2,995 yard, par 36 layout has a course rating of 67 when factored on two 9-hole circuits from the white tees. But don’t be deceived by its relatively short track, as there are rolling fairways, gullies, hills, and elevated greens to negotiate as well as the signature creek that crosses 5 holes and protects 2 greens.
In addition to an enjoyable round of golf, you’ll marvel at some spectacular Adirondack scenery as the course borders on the Saranac Lakes Wild Forest Area. You’ll find towering white pines with views of Scarface Mountain and the smaller Big Burn, Little Burn and Hennessy Mountains. Birds of prey are frequently seen soaring overhead and the Adirondack Scenic Railroad train is often spotted from the 8th and 9th holes as it whistles by on its daily tourist runs in the summer. Complete your round with a visit to the Clubhouse bar and banquet hall with panoramic views of the mountains, woods and golf course.
