Art Galleries, Co-ops and Studios

Saranac Lake and Lake Placid are a hub for artists to create, show and sell their work.  With festivals, studios and galleries all devoted to the visual arts, spending a day exploring the scene is well worth your time.  Who knows, you may even bring home a little piece of the mountains for your own home!  Here are some of the must see activities relating to the visual arts scene in our area:

Saranac Lake ArtWorks

A professional organization of artists in Saranac Lake, Saranac Lake ArtWorks coordinates festivals and events relating to the arts, helps artists find venues for their work, and publishes a great calendar of events.  If you want to see a show, purchase some beautiful art, or find a venue where there is great local art on display, this organization is a great resource.  They play a key role in the Plein-Air Festival, Third Thursday Art Walks, and the Artist at Work Studio Tour Event.  You can check with them for great up to the minute information at

Third Thursday Art Walks

On the third Thursday of the month between June and September, you can hit the town in Saranac Lake and get a taste of the Adirondack Arts Scene.  Between 5 and 7pm, local musicians jam on street corners and in cafes and bars, artists open the doors to their studios for tours and viewings, and galleries display lovely works from a number of artists.  It’s a great way to finish off a day of Adirondack tourism!

Bluseed Studios

In a great industrial building repurposed from its former life alongside the rail line, Bluseed Studios is a bustling hub for the local arts scene.  A large open venue for shows, musical performances and gatherings can be found above four professional art studios.  With community outreach programs that provide art opportunities to beginners, an artist in residence, and studio space available to rent for professional and upstart artists, Bluseed is a great place to visit during your time in the mountains.

Art Galleries

Main Street and Broadway in Saranac Lake are a great place to view and purchase art from spectacular local artists.  Located in the heart of our downtown, The Adirondack Artists Guild and NorthWinds Fine Arts are a great starting point.  There are also many local artists who offer studio tours and open houses throughout the summer tourist season.

Lake Placid Center for the Arts

Both a venue for the performing arts, and home to regular displays of the visual arts, LPCA is a wonderful place to get a feel for the Adirondack arts scene.  They host music and dance festivals, performing arts, a farmer’s market, and much more!  Call them today for a schedule of events- (518) 523-2512
