Here at Ampersand Bay Resort, we are proud of the peaceful, relaxing atmosphere. However, relaxation doesn't have to mean sitting still! There is always something to do at Ampersand Bay. Below is a short list of outdoor activities you can participate in.

Winter activities:

Cross Country Skiing and Snow shoeing - Ski season is a whole new world in the Adirondacks. There are many ski trails throughout the area. Traverse around the property, or try the adjacent Dewey Mountain Recreation Center. It's right next door and offers well groomed trails for the beginner to the expert.

Downhill Skiing and Snowboarding - Ski and ride the greatest vertical drop in the East at Whiteface Mountain.

Skating - You can bring your skates or rent a pair locally. Weather permitting, we have our own rink right on the lake. The Saranac Lake Civic Center is just down the road from us for indoor skating. For a taste of history, the nearby Lake Placid Speed Skating Oval offers public skating on a daily basis.

Ice Fishing - Ice fishing is available right on Lower Saranac Lake.

Snowmobile Rides - Enjoy a guided snowmobile trip through the Adirondack's pristine woodlands. Or bring your own and depart right from your door, with easy access to hundreds of miles of trails.

Sleigh Ride Dinners - Take a horse drawn sleigh ride accompanied with Dinner afterwards in a secluded cabin in the woods.

Dog Sled Rides - Take a crisp dog sled ride on the ice of Mirror Lake surrounded by the Adirondack mountains.

Olympic Venues - Take a self guided tour through the historic Winter Olympic Arena, Ski Jumps, and Bobsled Track.

Summer Activities:

Boating - Lets face it, you can't beat being out on a boat in the summer! Canoes, Kayaks, and Sailboats are all complimentary for our guests. If paddling isn't your thing, then rent a motorboat right from our marina and tour over 40 miles of scenic waterways.

Fishing - The Saranac Chain of lakes is world famous for bass and pike fishing. Home of the fishing tournament for the ESPN Outdoor Games 2000, 2001, 2002. Children and adults alike can enjoy fishing from the several docks situated in our creek or from the main dock. The northern pike and smallmouth bass fishing is great and there are plenty of perch to give the little ones a thrill. Fly Fishing enthusiasts? The Ausable River, just fifteen miles east is world famous for prized trout.

Hiking - One can hike just about anywhere around here. We can send you on any excursion, short or long. For the seasoned hiker, the High Peaks trails offer an unparalleled challenge. How many high peaks have you ascended? Closer to Ampersand Bay is the trail to Baker Mountain, an easy hike to take with the kids. Ampersand or McKenzie mountains offer lovely day hikes with incredible views from the summits. Nature hikes at the nearby Visitor Interpretive Center are a lot of fun and very informative about the natural environment and history of the Adirondacks. The VIC also offer lectures, slide show, and special events for kids throughout the summer.

Golfing - There are many championship Golf Courses in the area, including Craig Wood and the Links course at the Lake Placid Resort.

Horseback Riding - Experience a guided horseback riding trip on the Adirondacks' multitude of private, woodland trails.
